Sports Centre

This course is structured to develop Middle Eastern dance and more fitness focused than many of the others--although don't let that put you off.  We start with the basics and have aims and outcomes to achieve during the 10 or 12 weeksAll courses need to be pre booked by ringing the number listed, at least two weeks before the start date.  The most popular courses do tend to book full, so early booking is recommended.  New students are welcome up to week three of a course, although full payment may be required, after that date you may be asked to wait until the next course starts.

A fun and energetic course run in this wonderful town centre location.  The studio we use is perfect for dance, with a wall of full length mirrors and speakers in every corner to give us great sound.  We have recently moved to the top floor which is a bigger space.  Students here tend to be more fitness focused, but everyone is welcome and expected to work within their own limits.  The coffee shop downstairs means we have the chance to socialise after class--they do a mean fresh orange--and members of the sports centre get a discount on the course cost.

Parking for Festival place is ample, although we sometime experience long cues to get in during December, and there is no free parking.  The upside is that you can shop before or after class.  The Sports centre is located in Porchester Square right in the heart of the town centre.  Being central it is also very good for public transport and is within easy walking distance of the train station and bus stops.

By Train - Leave Basingstoke station by the main entrance (Taxi rank) and head down the stairs, across the road and into the tunnel for the shopping centre.  Wilkinsons is on your right, Sainsbury's on your left.  This tunnel opens onto a small square, which often has a roundabout in the middle.  Cut diagonally across this towards the bookshop and then carry on with Boots/ WHSmiths on your right and clothes/card shops on your left.  This street then leads to another open area - continue forward (going round the sandwich bubble in the centre!), with Woolworths on your left, and New Look on your Right.  The entrance to the Sports centre is on the left - IT IS EASY TO MISS - if you get to the entrance to Festival Place (shopping Mall), stop and look around you.  Don't go in to Festival place, the entrance is just outside.

By Car - Enter Basingstoke and follow signs for Festival Place car park.  Park in zone A (level 5 is probably best) and head down in the lift follow the tunnel and you will see Monsoon ahead of you.  Turn right, down a slight slope, with the music store and then Marks and Spencers on your left.  If you look up from here you should see the clock and upper level of the Sports centre.  Continue forward to the set of doors out into fresh air with the tie rack on your right and a men's wear shop on your left.  Go through the doors and the entrance to the Sports centre is immediately on your right.

The coffee shop and changing rooms are one level up.  The studio we are using is up three flights.  Use the stairs by the coffee shop--there is a lift just by the creche/soft play area and you want the top floor.

Dates for the whole year should be available at reception, but in 2008 I expect the terms to start :

12.1.08

26.4.08

20.9.08

The Intermediates and Advanced dancers will be working on their shimmies and hits in preparation for drum solo work.  They are also working on a balance drill, strengthening for arms and the famous veil drill.

New students of all levels are welcome anytime to a drop in session or to the first two weeks  of a course.  I run lots of classes aimed at various levels at different venues throughout the area and at times to suit different people--please take a look at the quick class finder to work out a short list of classes that would suit you then click on them to get more details.
