About the Workshops :

Bellydance Book Club with Catherine: —Eat, sleep, dream bellydance ?, now read all about it too !, Catherine will introduce you to a huge array of books on Bellydance, both fact and fiction, and share her views on which to pack for holidays and which to pass on to the dustbin men.

Hip Hop Bellydance Fusion with Melissa: —Learn some popular street dance and hip hop moves and how to incorporate them into bellydance by learning a fun choreography to Bounce by Tarkan. This workshop is fun and energetic but suitable for all as no previous experience of street dance is required.

1001 fig 8s with Poppy:--Does almost what it says on the box ! - get creative and explore all the ways your body can twist and turn.

Exploring Latin Rhythms with Julie: —Learn the basic steps of 2 Latin American dances and dance them to some strict tempo Latin music.  Then, using these new found skills, learn how they can be put together into a simple choreography, incorporating the Latin rhythms with some Middle Eastern music.  Recognise the Latin rhythms and interpret them in your future dancing.  All steps can be done bare feet or with jazz shoes but some heeled dance shoes, if you have them, would be ideal'.

No Sew Skirts with Sara: —Please bring two or three meters of material that doesn’t fray, thick elastic to match, iron on hemming and any embellishments you want to add.

Get Balanced with Jo: —Where is your centre of balance? What happens if you move it?  How would you move it? How can you improve stability in your dancing to avoid wobbles and that teetering look? Turning without falling; travelling with speed or balance; undulations -flexibility .v. stability. Exploring symmetry, balance and stability in your dance moves.

Super Stretches for Suppleness and Style: -Learn how stretching works on your body and when and how to stretch for best effect. Learn when not to stretch so as not to damage your dancing and what is too much.   Explore a range of different stretches which will gradually improve your flexibility and suppleness allowing you to reach those moves you want but can't quite do.

Lebanese with Emma :- All new Combinations.  High heel dance shoes preferable but not compulsory!

About the Teachers :

  • Emma is a well established teacher and performer based in Reading. After studying Egyptian for many years she decided 5 years ago to specialise in both Lebanese and tribal.
  • Sara has been a full time bellydance teacher now for more than 10years, teaching in Basingstoke, Reading and now Bracknell she is known for her fun technique focused teaching style.
  • Jo has been dancing since she was a child and belly dancing for nearly 10 years. Mostly training with Sara, yet taking in as many additional teachers as she can Jo has developed her own style and now teaches regular popular FunBellyDance classes in her new home in rural Devon. Jo was lucky enough to get to dance on TV as part of her acting work and has been an occasional dancer with one band (multicultural folk) and a regular dancer with two others (space rock and an indie duo). Her most recent fun gig was being a last minute fill in for an Olympic event in Plymouth dancing in the Afro Bhangra Ceilidh performance with 7 other trained dancers.  Jo recently qualified as a sports coach with Somerset College.
  • Julie has been dancing Since the age of 7 firstly Ballroom and Latin American, later becoming qualified to teach.  She is interested in exploring how to fuse her years of dance experience with her much more recent love of belly dancing
  • Melissa started street dance classes back in 2003 and ever since has tried her hand at around fifteen other dance styles including bellydance since 2004. She loves fusing all styles with bellydance and creating fun choreographies which she enjoys sharing with others. Her workshops are fun yet relaxed
  • Catherine 'Catherine has been studying belly dance for ten years, loves to read and has an interested in Egyptian culture

Poppy started Bellydance classes at the age of 12, and last year made it to the finals of the Young Miss               Bellydancer at Raqs Britannia judged by the      Bellydance Superstars.  A popular workshop teacher she hopes to start regular classes in the area very soon.
