Do you feel like you have outgrown your current class ?, is teaching others restricting your own growth as a dancer ?, do you need a kick to take your dancing to a new level ?  Would you like to share the creativity of a more advanced group ?  Do you need to re-discover the fun of not being a class/group leader or “best in class”.  Then this is the class for you.  I will teach you not only “new stuff”, but also challenge you to open your mind to new ideas, to push yourself physically, emotionally and creatively.  I will give you ideas and techniques to make your regular classes more challenging, your practice more focused and your performance more real.  Classes will be student lead, picking up on topics each term, with each class working as a stand alone workshop, or joining up to give a fuller understanding of the topic.  And if that wasn’t enough we can stroll across the car park to Basingstokes best curry house afterwards for nibble and natter!

Dates and topics for Spring 2010 :

21st March : - Dancing from the Heart - Putting it into a choreography.  This will not be a choreography class, but we will build on existing choreographys and combinations to layer in the story telling and emotion.  Taking the frame of any choreography we can improvise, mixing in favourite moves, story telling and emotional highs and lows.

25th April : - Staging out.  How we look to others, how our every move tells a story and how to use the stage, face and arms to set the tone for your peice.

23rd May : - Structured Improv with heart.  With tonnes of research and our improved interpretation skills we will work on a peice or two writing a structured improvisation that touches the audience.

27th June : -  Tell us a story !  Putting it all together we will work on a Structured Improvisation, adding layers of emotion to tell an impressive story.

September to November - Question and Answer sessions.  Is there something you have always wanted to ask ?, maybe something you wish you had learnt as a beginner, but now you feel you should know but don’t ?,   Is there a subject you wish you knew more about ?, or do you need to work on part of your technique ?  Each month I will gather questions and then we will takle them one by one - no question to small, or too stupid.

Who is this class for ? - Advanced dancers.  If you are not sure if you are an Advanced dancer, then come along and give it a go.  It will not be my aim to drown anyone who is not “good enough”, but equally I want to create a space where advanced dancers can feel like they can spread their wings without feeling like they are constantly re-covering the basics.  This class should be seen as an addition to regular weekly classes, and I would expect an Advanced dancer to be doing one or two hours a week of class, and to be re-visiting a basic class at least once a year (all dancer need to re-cover the basics regularly).  In addition Advanced dancers take workshops, and have a regular home practice session each week.  This class is not suitable for beginners or those who are not yet ready to get creative.  You wont enjoy it if you like to be told what to do or prefer to learn by following the bouncing butt - we will be doing very little of that.  For these sessions it wont matter what style of dance you do, as long as you are happy to adapt what you are learning to your favourite style.  The Saturday class recently worked on this topic, so if you took that class and feel you dont need to re-cover or expand on dancing from the heart then you may prefer to join the class in the summer term.

What should I bring ? - Dance shoes and your most comfy class clothes.  A note book and pen, water, snacks.  Cardi and leg warmers are a good idea as we will be mixing dancing with thinking and group time.
