Mersin aim to organise four events each year : Spring--A Taste of Dance - 1st March 2008 A mix of shorter workshops to give dancers the chance to try a style without having to study it in depth. Followed by a Hafla with a few performances Order Form at the bottom of this page Spring--A Day of Dance (not happening in 2008--sorry !) "A day of Workshops, Performance and Joy !" This is our big event of the year with the choice of half a dozen 2 hour workshops in a variety of styles and a mix of choreographies and technique.--Followed by a Show featuring each class group plus fabulous dancers from all over the UK. Autumn--A Taste of Dance (September) The Chance to study with one of our favourite dance teachers from the UK. Followed by a Hafla with a Performance Platform. 17th December 2008--Christmas celebration Treat yourself to some you time and celebrate the holidays by joining us for a Hafla with a mix of performances, group improvisation and fun games. Details below ! In addition Sara and Emma may host other events each year as the opportunities arise. Once again we hope that Yasmina of Cairo will visit in the summer and hope to host a workshop with a special guest from the US. In the past we have also hosted the Bellydance Super Stars, Princess Farhana and Joe Williams when they visited the UK. Performance slots are very limited and often book up six months in advance. We are currently looking for performers for our Spring event. Contact your teacher if you are interested. |

Emma Chapman is a dancer and JWAAD-trained teacher from Cambridge who specialises in modern Egyptian bellydance. A dynamic performer, she has been captivating audiences for many years with both authentic Egyptian and experimental fusion dances. Emma Pyke is a teacher and performer of Middle Eastern Dance based in Reading, Berkshire. She teaches regular dance classes as well as a range of workshops. Emma was the first teacher to introduce BellyRobics to Reading and is the only teacher to continue providing dedicated weekly classes of this high energy belly dance based workout. As an ASMED mentor she now helps other teachers to develop their skills. Deborah is the founder of Black Willow, who design and produce amazing Tribal wear for top dancers and beginners alike. As well as appearing as part of Covert Bling with some improvised Tribal, Blackwillow will also be performing in her "Oriental Dancer" persona at the evening Hafla and is a member of Mersin. Sara Shrapnell is an international performer and full time teacher who is committed to the development of Middle Eastern Dance in the UK, partly through her work with ASMED and WADA. She loves all styles of ME dance, sharing a taste of everything with her students from their very first term, where the focus is on enjoying freedance and developing self expression. As a director of Mersin she enjoys working with highly committed dancers and the challenges and knowledge they share. |
